This clip captured an incredible scene where a giant leatherback turtle emerged from the depths of the ocean to rest on the sand and reflect on its long life. A tourist initially captured this turtle video on an unknown beach, but it appears to have been forgotten by the press, although some independent outlets reported it.

Several tourists watched the scene with amazement and excitement as the enormous turtle used its fins to crawl along the sandy shore before returning to the ocean, its home. After a few attempts to get back into the water, the sea turtle succeeds and rides into the waves of the magnificent sea, never to be seen again. This was indeed a rare event to behold. Watching this video is the closest thing to being there.

I bet the turtle was 150 years old and still young! It’s funny how your motivation drops when the water recedes. I guess she is smart enough to wait for the water to return since it is easier for her to move in the water. Let Mother Nature do the heavy lifting. Leatherback turtles are well known for being among the largest turtles on Earth, and unlike freshwater turtles, sea turtles get quite large. How big do you order? These turtles are capable of reaching up to seven feet in length and can weigh up to 2,000 pounds, literally a ton!

During nesting season, turtles come out of the sea to dig a nest and lay their eggs in the sand near the water to hatch safely and repopulate their species. After the eggs hatch, the new baby sea turtles are close enough to the ocean to sneak away and begin their lives. Remember this, though: Those babies take an incredible 15 to 20 years to reach adulthood. Right now, there are presumably century-old tortoises on this planet, and if you saw one, you might not even be able to recognize it.

Let’s do our part to keep not only leatherback turtles, but all threatened and endangered animals alive and with us as long as possible.
